Thanks Nathan that worked.

Apparently I don’t understand where/how tracks are stored. Are they stored in the map file itself?

I forgot to answer this question. If it is a track that has been recorded, you can see the total distance when you choose Edit... from the List page.

Many files can calculate this based on the GPX file.

I'm curious about this too. Nathan, is there a way to do this in BCN? If not, I've got an Excel program that I'd be happy to share with the group. In fact, I might even be able to reprogram it in that new free Google version of excel, so that people who don't own MS Excel could use it for free, provided the Google software has equivalents for the various functions I use.

What utility program do you use?  Thanks.

Sorry to take so long answering, I just now saw this.

It's actually an excel worksheet that I set up. I paste the GPX file into the worksheet and then use the @if() and @search() functions to select the text I want to keep, which I put in another column. I copy that formula all the way down, then copy out the column with the text I want to keep into a new GPX file.

GPS->Track->Clear will only the track that is currently being recorded, as you've noticed.

Recent versions of the product have two top level menus - Program and Action. See this page:

http://www.backcountrynavigator.com/content/view/101/46/

If you haven't updated since December 2007, it will look different. Go to the list page, choose Tracks in the drop down menu, and push Load. You will find the lists of Tracks there to Edit or Delete.

What Action menu are you refering to?

To clear tracks it is.. GPS > Track > Clear

But it don't! Like I said it will clear other tracks that are displayed, but not this "persistent" track.

If you use the menu item Action->List->Tracks, it will list the tracks that are in your current file.

You can choose one to Edit or Delete. If you Edit, you can change the color, name, or make invisible.

If this doesn't resolve it, please post about your experience.

There is a track displayed on a map I use frequently. I have recorded other tracks and cleared them, but this “persistent” track won’t clear.

What’s going on and how do I clear it short of deleting my map?

Oh, and keep in mind that the primary function of Geoscout is as a geocaching program.  It is the best for managing geocaches.  The primary function of Beeline is as a GPS management program; it is the one with all the pretty GPS maps and graphs.  The primary function of BCN is as map viewing software.  Most of the BCN programing time goes into the primary function, which is making the downloading and viewing of map tiles more efficient.
