Just in case it is of interest to anyone other than my self, there is a great free GIS/GPS/Mapping program called Microdem available at http://www.usna.edu/Users/oceano/pguth/website/microdem.htm

Its is great for integrating desktop mapping and all things GPS and USGS with BCN. It is a very complex program and not very user friendly but deffinately worth lookinging into to help get the most out of BCN and your desktop especially given it price.
