Tracking is a highly requested feature that we are working on. A track or trail, as we've defined it, is a series of connected points that may have elevation if recorded. A track as a whole may have a description, but the individual points typically do not have names.

Some things that we would like to have work:
  • Record points on a track as we get position from the GPS.
  • Filter it down so we don't get too many points or jaggedness in the track.
  • Display the track or trail as a series of line segments on the map, perhaps with customizable colors.
  • Import tracks or trails in GPX format, in addition to waypoints.
  • Store tracks in your datafile.
  • Export tracks, along with waypoints, in GPX format to share with other friends or use in other software.
  • Ability to post GPX files to the internet for a nicely formatted and illustrated trip report.
Your thoughts are welcome.

I feel this would be the feature that would love to see implemented, even if only a few of the elements mentioned.

I can't wait for the tracking feature.  It would be great if there would be a way to export tracks to a pc base program like google earth or USAphotomaps.  I have seen another company that have tracking for the roads where you use google earth to view your track.  That program will be great for when I ride Bike on the Road.  But your program will be used for dirt trails, plus with the Topo maps Backcountry is perfect for off road.

We're actively working on tracking. We still have several things to get working before we release it.

The data model should be compatible with Google Earth, USAPhotoMaps, and other programs that take a GPX file.

Did some geocashing this weekend and a trail would have been a huge help.  Any info on when this will be added to the package?

Still working on it. Here is a screenshot displaying some trails imported from GPX.

We've been able to display them correctly. Unfortunately, its not very quick; it takes 5-6 seconds to display what you see here. This is fixable, but takes some more experimentation.

I'm hoping to make some fixes and do some field testing on this coming weekend, and report back next week.

This is such a good product. But is there a way to export a track to a GIS program?

The next release, sometime this week, will have the GPX export button. Quite a few programs can use that.

Now we're talking!
It is really nice to see a developer actually working on new versions.
Your product should go far.

Try out the GPX export button on version 2.0.1, available on your download page now. GPX can be read by desktop programs like EasyGPS, TopoFusion, UsaPhotoMaps, and Google Earth. See if it works for you.

Yes, it works great!
But there a few things I don't quite understand. In the the List Tab  the waypoints are listed but not the tracks, but when I select the export function, the tracks show up (along with the waypoints) in the desktop application. Why am I unable to view thr tracks in the List Tab?

Also when I select the export function, all of the waypoints and tracks are included in the gpx file. Is there a way to omit some waypoints and tracks and select others I wish to include in the export file? Do I have to export all of them as a single file?

And where are original waypoint and track files stored on the PDA? I can't find them using File Explorer on the PDA?

Thanks for developing such a nice program.

You are correct that the List Page has not caught up to all the data that is available. It's being worked on.

You'd hope to be able to choose a track and edit the name, description, and color, plus choose which tracks are shown on the map.

As far as selecting what gets exported, that can grow more flexible over time. For now, the desktop software programs can do this pretty well.

Thanks for the reply.
You are correct about the desktop applications.
At my work we use the high high trimble GPS units that cost thousands of dollars. It amazes me the product you put out for such a small price.
Keep up the good work!
