Is anyone else having problems downloading maps from TerraServer? I noticed it was really slow last week and timed out a lot. This week I can't download much at all.
Is anyone else having problems?

I have not had problems, a little slow maybe. I have only downloaded to my PC using the new beta desktop BCN for the past few days, don't know if that makes a difference.

I'm trying to go up to 1/4 on a small section using the download section feature and it's just sitting there. It takes a long time to list the number of tiles then nothing. No time out, nothing. About 4 hours of nothing. I can surf the web on it, but no tiles. Upgraded to the new version, same problem.
Weird

This doesn't sound normal. It should time out after a minute or two.
Do you have coordinates for the area you are downloading? I'll see if I can get the same thing to happen there.

Well, I think it might not be a problem with TerraServer after all. Just before I was running out the door to go home last night I grabbed my Axim to put it in it's case and it had the "download complete" screen up. I tapped on "ok" and it still said 0/1677 tiles. It appears it is not refreasing the screen for some reason. It takes a long time for the number of tiles to come up as well. I'm not sure what the problem is.

So far it is working fine today. I am working on a more rural region, no urban tiles available and it updates every tile just like it always did before.

I've been unable to reproduce the deadlock you saw earlier.
When you get a chance, could you send me coordinates for where you were downloading?

If I'm doing this correctly, it was 039.14499N 077.14554W to 039.07667N 077.09169W Covers needwood lake in Rockville Md, the northern end of Rock Creek Park.

I'm assuming it was a problem with my handheld, it seems to be working today, atleast at 1m. I'll try 1/4 tomorrow.

I'm doing 1/4 today and for about the last 3 hours the screes reads Aerial 0/0 Urban 0/182. It has not timed out so I believe it is still receiving data but I can't tell what it is doing. There should be a lot more than 182 tiles for Urban.

It is still computing the number of tiles, I would guess, which is probably at least 16 times what you are seeing. Why it is taking so long is still a mystery to me. Is this a single rectangle or a large number of them? How is the memory on your Pocket PC while this is going on?

It is a single rectangle. I'll check the memory today and do a smaller area in the same region. There are a couple of other symptoms to this problem. I don't know if they are related or not. Usually, the screen changes as it is calculating the number of tiles but it seems to freeze at a small number and stay there. It is not showing a large section on the aerial map in this region for any resolution. It shows up on topo just not aerial. This has happened before in another area as well. I was able to view the aerial maps in the TeraServer site.

The section is missing from the TerraServer site Urban file. When I started to re-download the Topo and Aerial tiles at 1m it took 1 hour and 15 minutes to calculate that there were 37 topo tiles and 2545 Aerial tiles. That is a lot longer than normal. So far it looks like it is downloading okay.

The file got to about 90% before I had to leave and nothing shows up. I tried a smaller section this morning and tried to download everything at all resolutions. Nothing shows up except the Topo. I can see aerial on the TerraServer site, but it does not show up on my Axium. GPS coords of rectangle are 039.18120N 077.23219W X 039.13559N 076.93504W
Any ideas?

I've been downloading thigns in the same area. I've had some slow downloads, although I haven't gotten a complete deadlock.
I am seeing a gap in aerials just north of Needwood lake. While there are some gaps on Terraserver, they are not in the same place. I'll have to do some more investigation into why we are getting blanks here.
