Thought I'd go ahead and start a separate thread for all my dumb questions.

First, any help on getting GPS connected would be appreciated, see thread below for details.

Second, I've started collecting maps for my areas of interest, and I notice right off that the 90 degree longitude runs right through the middle of memphis, and terraserver basically ends there. You can't scroll across it and get to the other side - you have to do a new "find" operation to get top the other side.

I saw another guy's post on here about a similar case where he was crossing a UTM boundary, which seems to indicate that you can't define a download with a coordinate on each side of the divide, or it thinks your target area is like 300 miles wide.

So, how would you construct, for example, a single map of urban Memphis? Look up Memphis on terraserver on like the 6th level of detail and you'll see what I mean.

For now, I'm just doing one download on each side of the line, hoping I can find a way to combine them into a single map.

TerraServer does indeed have discotinuities at the UTM zone boundaries. Also the limitation that the UTM Zone of a rectangle is determined by its center point. You can probably get around this by defining rectangles for download on both sides of the boundary.

When displaying this data, BCN does about the best it can. It actually does quite a few calculations to find out the best data to display. IT still won't be seamless because of useless data that TerraServer stores at the seams.

Wow, what cool software. I'm already getting kind of compulsive about it. Good thing I have some time off work - this is the 3rd night in a row that I've sat up all night fooling with it. I don't know what happens, I just sit down and fiddle with a few things and next thing I know it's turning light outside.

Here's a couple more questions, mostly minor stuff -

1. Do you have to save a track while tracking is still turned on? I've recorded 2 tracks so far, but I lost the second one (tried to save it, but when I looked at the file all it had was waypoints). I'm pretty sure I turned tracking off before saving the first one, and it worked fine. On the second one, I might have "cleared selection" before attempting to save the track - would that make the track disappear? What else might cause one to lose a track? This was a pet peeve of mine with an older Garmin tracking GPS that I used to use, I was always losing tracks with it and never did figure out how to prevent the loss.

2. Do you have to be stationary to mark waypoints? I tried to mark a couple while moving and didn't get the dialog box, and don't find any waypoints now that I've stopped.

3. What's the order of colors for satellite clarity - like this?
White – bad (how does it know it’s there, from the internet download?)
Yellow – poor
Tan – fairly poor
Orange – fair
Green – good

I'll probably figure these things out eventually from using it, but an authoritative answer on how it should work would be helpful. Overall, I have fewer questions than I usually do with new programs - everything seems thoughtfully laid out and mostly intuitive. Great job on program design!

1. Saving a track turns tracking off in recent versions. Some don't like that, so it will be going back to leave tracking on after a save in the next version. If you clear a track before it is saved, it will be lost.

2. Marking the screen is difficult while moving. GPS->Mark GPS Waypoint saves the current GPS Position.

3.
NoSignal - Black with white outline
PoorSignal - LightCoral
ModerateSignal = Orange
GoodSignal = Green
ExcellentSignal = Lime
