layer control / layer manager

It would be nice to have control of the topo map layers that are in a map file. While it is nice to have multiple layers for zooming, sometimes I only need a 1:24K or 1:50K layer. If there was a menu that allowed the deletion and/or downloading of different resolutions, it would save a lot of time & memory.
