I just paid for the 2.5.0 and received my activation code.
Every time I start BCN DE I have to reenter the activation code. Is this the way it is suppose to work? I am use to registering applications once and then they are good to go.
Love the program, my old eyes like planing and reviewing on the larger screen then transferring to my PPC. :D
Great work Nathan and team. ;)

No.
I'll try to find out what is going wrong.
Do you consistently get the same DeviceID when starting the program? You should.

I don't know, I will check it out.
Looks like the same code, it is a long son of a gun. I have 30 days showing up as trial today too, if that helps any.
I suspect there may be some access settings on Registry.
Can you run regedit and see if you see anything in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CritterMap\BackCountryNavigator
Nathan
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CritterMap Software\BackCountry Navigator Desktop Edition\{64BFB9DC-B6E5-5219-6333-FD7D1D2D10F2} Data (shows the location on my computer as Documents and Settings ******* for my computer name.
(Default) Data (value not set)
Is this what you were wanting?
I see that too, but is there anything in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CritterMap\BackCountryNavigator
when typed exactly as shown?
It could be a problem if not.
Just the two I showed. They are both empty. I am looking at the Critter
Map Software. The keys as copied are
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CritterMap Software
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CritterMap Software\BackCountry Navigator Desktop Edition
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CritterMap Software\BackCountry Navigator Desktop Edition\{64BFB9DC-B6E5-5219-6333-FD7D1D2D10F2}
If I go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CritterMap Software without the Desktop Edition I get
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CritterMap\BackCountryNavigator
with a default and a License Key
Under that is
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CritterMap\BackCountryNavigator\Settings2X
So it looks like I have 2
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CritterMap Software
one with Desktop Edition
In the LicenseKey space there should be an unreadable string of approximately 120 characters.
I suspect that the program is having trouble in Vista either reading or writing that string. I'll send you some more instructions later today by email.
It looks like a long unreadable string. By the way I am XP not Vista. Thanks Nathan.
I've foudn out what is happening here. It may take a few more days, but it can be fixed.
I am not surprised, you are fantastic. No rush it is functional and great, at least for 27 more days. I knew you would figure it out! :-*

Any luck wit the fix?
Yes.
I didn't get a chance to post the release Saturday, but I hope to tonight.
Thanks, Your the best! :-*

It did not accept my activation code. :-[
:-[ My fault, I needed to reset the activation code.
As the first person to activate the desktop product, thanks for ironing out the wrinkles for the others. ;)
It is fixed!!!
Thanks Nathan, Another Great Job.
I wish more programs had as great a customer support as you.
;D
I downloaded the desktop version last night to help manually draw out some of my tracks. Looks like it is great at moving the tasks of the mobile version to a larger screen with mouse and keyboard.
I was curious however, after spending $10 on the mobile app license, do we have to purchase another license for desktop, or is this included?
The Desktop version is licensed separately, but data transfer from it is limited since it is compatible with the Windows Mobile version, not Android.
You won't be able to transfer the maps, though you would be able to export a track and waypoints as GPX.
Making the Desktop version work well with the Android version woudl take some effort and money on our part, which we can't spend if noone would pay for a separate license. We may put effort instead into being compatible with some free or open source tools.
There are some alternatives, even now:
TopoFusion, even the free version, can let you draw up tracks and save them in GPX for import.
There may be others that people can suggest.
Sorry Nathan,
I wish I hadn't spent time researching only to learn I won't be able to use BCNav with my Droid2 or use my MacBook to download.
I tried a PC at work, but see that I would need an additional license so I could download maps for my phone. Seems redundant when I have already paid for a license.
But the biggest let down is that the desktop doesn't export in a format usable for Android. Too bad, it's the fastest growing segment of the market.
I have had moderate success using BCNav on my Droid (offline, when out of cell service is fantastic), but would prefer to get the map dwnld done on a larger screen.
A desktop version for Android is the fastest growing segment of the market?
Have you already tried this? You should have heard about it in the newsletter:

It's not terribly user friendly, but people are figuring it out.
