Can not connect after installing Ver. 2.7.8

By TFlower - Posted on 16 October 2009

Have a TDS Nomad 800L running BCN Version 2.7.8.
After upgrading to the most current software version, I have been unable to connect to any satelites. What gives?

Try this because I had the same problem.with my hp 6945 If you have another gps program on your unit. Run that first. then make sure you close out that program. By running the other program it resets the satellite information for some reason. Then try running 2.7.8

I'm having the same issues. Since updating to 2.7.8, I can no longer connect to my GPS receiver. I've reset all of the settings for the GPS (three different areas must be checked). Let windows manage the BC2 settings, and manually set them. Neither way works. I tried running GPSUtilities and VisualGPS before running BC2. Still doesn't connect. I've also uninstalled BC2, removed the registry references and ran it again...still nada. Changed the COM Port, changed NMEA settings, changed anything I could think of...the app still just stares at me like a fixed cat!

I have an HTC8525 with WM6.1, running a Qstarz BT-Q890 on COM4.

What does BackCountry Navigator come up with when you hit Detect?

Also, do you remember a version where this used to be working? I can check for changes that could be suspect.

I believe it was sometime in Aug 09.  I don't remember which version it was, since the install program overwrites the previous version.  2.7.8 was the first time I upgraded the software, since Aug 09.

Thanks

I wasn't able to find anything that jumped out as being a breaking change among those versions.

You can get to 2.7.5 here if you want to confirm it has changed with the version.

Tried that. Check all of the settings. Did two cold boots and several warm boots. Re-installed version 2.7.8 twice. No luck with anything.
It goes into the program fine. No errors. When I hit connect, it just sits there. No time limit, no errors. Almost like I didn't click on connect.
The demo version was working great. No issues at all.

You'll want to make sure the settings are the way they are mentioned on here:

What does BackCountry Navigator come up with when you hit Detect? It should come up with something like "Shared NMEA device on COM3".

Nothing is at that URL...http://www.backcountrynavigator.com/content/view/80/1/

Some pages have changed in the last few days.

Note that this is specific to the Trimble Nomad, but it can be helpful for others as well.

Following the setup information changes, the software seems to be working fine now. I had to do a warm boot for the changes to take effect.
Now lets see what this thing can do!

I found a way to make this work (at least for my HTC 8525 with WinMobile 6.1). Use the bluetooth settings to configure your external GPS receiver. When setting up the bluetooth, I left the "Serial Port" unchecked. Then go to settings, then the "system" tab. open the external GPS manager. Change the "GPS Program Port" to None. The hardware port shouldn't matter. Then in the "Access" tab, check the "Manage GPS automatically." After I did that, everything worked fine.

If you need a suggestion for the COM Port, I used 5.

I've had tried combinations of EVERYTHING over the past several weeks, before I finally found one that worked.
