Coordinates in Format DDD:MM.MMMMM

By Generator - Posted on 23 May 2011

Hi everybody,
I have to enter coordinates in the format mentioned above. But even using "," es a delimitor it does not work realy well. The waypoints (known waypoints checked by google earth and so on) are not on the expected point in the map, let's say 50 m south of this. This is a quite bad accuracy.

In the single coordinates field of my galaxy tab the input is the following (example):

047:34.12345,007:40.98766

Also tried:
47:34.12345,7:40.98766
or
47:34,12345,7:40,98766 (as shown af pointing into the map in order to create waypoints).
Any sugggestions??
Thank you very much!!!
Bye Gen

There were a few issues with recent builds, so make sure you have updates.

BCN, by default, uses the WGS84 datum. Have the other software programs used any other datum, like NAD27?

Sorry, this forum has had a deluge of spam, and some messages got lost.

I have tried the exact coordinate above, and the position agreed with what I see on Google Maps.

When you go back to editing the waypoint, does it show you the same coordinate as you entered?

Nathan

Hi Nathan, thanks for your reply (there where two answers of mine which are not published, but you explained this).

When I tap& hold into the screen the BCN defines a new waypoint (showing a speech balloon). Okay. Now, for instance, I get some coordinates by the geocaching.com website and would like to put it into the new waypoint by editing it.

***Question 1: Is this possible in general? It should because the mask offers this way to edit a WP.

***Question 2: which format: let's take this template and analyse it's elements:
047:34.12345,007:40.98766
Is this correct? (1) no Direction like N or E, (2) leading zeros, (3) ":" as text mark between degrees and minutes, (4)"," as punctation mark between Long and lat, (5) first value refers to lat, second one to long.

*** Question 3: Which color the field has when input is correct? Sometimes it is red, sometimes green which is hardly readable, so I have supposed green is wrong. I am not able to recognize a pattern of color occurence.

After all these procedures and performing experimental work on different formats the result is always the same: the WP on the map is exactly at the same position where it was after tapping into the screen.

For Hiking and orientation it is fine, no problem, but it is not suitable for Geocaching, and at this issue my questions were aiming.
Can you help? It is a great programme, any way.
Greetings - Piet
PS: Yesterday I hav dowloaded the most recent version as suggested by android market.

The answer to 1 and 2 should be yes. If not, there is something wrong.

The green should indicate correct, red indicates incorrect and will not be saved.

We will have to change the color scheme. The colors didn't work for such a long time and when they started working, they weren't clear.

Nathan

Okay Nathan,
special thanks. Today afternoon I will have a bike tour, so I will use the BCN :-). It would be of great help if this could be my standard programme for outdoors as it uses free map sources in contrast to my current software.
I will report new experiences.
Bye and have a nice outdoor weekaend.
Piet
