Dell Axim x51v

By mooka520 - Posted on 08 February 2010

I want to turn my Dell Axim x51v into a geocaching unit. So, this means that I want my Axim to be a GPSr receiver. I would need to by a compact flash gps receiver for the axim. I need suggestions of what one to buy. Also, I need what mapping software...ha ha..backcountry navigator would work right?

Please help!

Bluetooth would work nicely as well - there just as cheap as compact flash these days - but there are a few more steps in setting them up. If you use a bluetooth gps, I reccomend one with auto on/off because it saves some steps.

Here's one good place to get them:

BackCountry Navigator would work, assuming you are in the United States and can use aerial photography and/or topo maps.  It wouldn't work if you want driving directions.

I have a axim x50v I bought from a guy complete with a Dell/NavTeq Bluetooth GPS receiver (wireless). Mine gives driving directions and I have found it better in some ways than m y old MS Streets and Trips on my laptop. Streets and Trips just keeps saying offg route until you're back on the right route. The Dell Bluetooth setup gives audible directions on the fly as you have taken the wrong turn, say in a city as I did, and gets you back on route or creates a new one as quickly as possible-love it.
