HELP!!

By cervelo97 - Posted on 05 August 2010

I am trying to understand this app. I am pretty new to this topo stuff. I live in Washington right now but am going to be doing some backpacking in Zions National Park in Utah. I found a topo map with the trail already laid out but I don't know how to import it into this app so I can navigate from this already laid out map. Also, I have the map saved as a .jpg. What format does it need to be in and how do I convert it. Thanks for any help! As soon as I can understand how to use this app, I will gladly pay my $10 for it!

You don't have to supply your own maps in BackCountry Navigator.

This web page has a good GPX download for Zion's park.

Look for this is in your email. You may be able to open this from gmail on your phone.

Then you'll want to follow the help instructions to download maps for that area.

There is now also a blog entry on this topic with an example.

Using GPX files with Android GPS App.

Here is the link. www.backpacker.com/search/?q=Zion&x=32&y=14 Just click on the trip and click download to my computer.

They also have an app, but this one is much better because it is much easier to get the maps.

Have fun in Zion. I was there last summer. It is wonderful. Don't forget to put your phone on airplane mode to save battery power. You do not want to be stuck in the backountry without a map.

You can also get a small drybag that is clear. Perhaps something like this. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000FE9CAK/ref=mp_s_a_8?qid=1281141709&sr=8-8
Your phone should work through it (even the screen, I have an Eris and it does).
