How does one delete sections of a map.

I now have a very large map with sections that have levels of detail I need to eliminate to make the db3 file smaller.

How do I do this w/o starting from scratch?

It's on our todo list, but you can't do this now.

Has there been any forum discussion on how this would work in an upcoming version?

None that I can find.

The best idea I can see is to be able to mark a rectangle and then have a menu item that says "Delete Map Data". But there can certainly be various expectations of what would happen then, that I would need to understand.

Assuming you could only delete whole tiles at a time, at a minimum I would like to see an interface that allows the user to choose to display the tiles for a certain detail level (i.e. 16m). The user would then see the 16m tiles overlaid with a grid showing the outline of the tiles. The user could then pick a single tile or multiple tiles by clicking individually or with a selection rectangle. Then the user could delete those selected tiles.

I use a PDA and backup the maps on a PC that I consider important. If I need to add a bit more map or higher resolution that I won't want later, I can revert to the previous version. With the maps on a sd card it's easy to swap maps databases to conserve room or keep them the way I want.
