LETS COVER THE BASICS PLEASE
:-\ Well I have been rereading alot of past postings to refresh my memory after the accident but now I have some questions. I plan on using My ASUS 696 PDA using WM6 with Built in GPS. Currently using Destinator6 GPS PRogram
1. Do you download BCN to laptop then active synch or to SD card that has Destinator6 maps on it or fresh Blank SD card??? I have read it is best to install maps on SD card with SD card reader
2. If the main BCN is installed in the programs of the PDA will it work??? I assume the latest version is most dependable.
3. Can someone give detailed steps to follow on how to active synch using vista???
4. I have an SD card reader if that is easier and an Sd slot in my vista home premium Laptop..... Just need some direction and patience to get reliable results.
Share your helpful suggestions
Thanks to all, It has been a while

ActiveSync in Vista is now called the Windows Mobile Device Center. I don't have Vista, so I can't post screenshots, but it does have a file manager function which is probably helpful.
If you do have an SD Card reader, that is the preferred path for putting maps on an SD Card. Copy the .db3 file that you were using with the desktop version. A fresh blank sd card gives you more space, but it is not required.
If there is enough space available on the SD Card, it doesn't matter if there are other files on it.
Yes, install the latest BCN to main on your PDA.
Thank you Nathan for the quick reply.
When installing BCN to main on PDA Do I just download the latest version to Laptop then useWindows Mobile Device center to transfer to Asus 696. This is the steps and setting I need the most help on or I will screw things way up and cannot ever get them to work right again???????? Wish their was an easier way ???
In that case, I'll try to make this one easier.
There is a link on the download page:
"Run this file to install Mobile Version From Desktop computer"
When you run this one, there is a button to push the install out to the device. The Install Process wil continue on the device without you having to worry about whether it uses ActiveSync or Mobile Device Center to push it over.
There is a link on the download page:
To clarify What page are your referring to??? do you mean BCN Download program page or BCN Mobile page or BCN desktop page?????
As of yet I don't have the BCN desktop version if it will greatly help they I will download it, if a hastle then I would like to keep things simplier? If the Desktop download has the ability to transfer the files to the PDA using WM6 then that is what I probably need. I was reading more about the BCN desktop version and it says:The file format (.db3) is 100% compatible with the mobile version. You can copy files from your PC over to your built in storage or storage card on your Pocket PC. Avoid continuously syncing the file to minimize wear on your storage card. So do I just hook up the sd card reader or use the USC cable to transfer the files?????? ???
Don't want to be a pain just want it to work. I really need this.
Thanks David

To clarify, there is a menu to your right that has "Your Details, Download, Buy!, and Unregister". The one that says Download is the Download page.
There are choices on that page. But only one link says
"Run this file to install Mobile Version From Desktop computer"
There is a pretty good explanation under the box of what each of the installers do. If it is not clear then let me know.
Yes, you do want the Desktop version. While you can do either one, just hook up the sd card reader.
Ok I found the
"Run this file to install Mobile Version From Desktop computer"
I hooked up the usb to mini usb for my device(ASUS 696 pda with GPS) I don't see it listed under Computer ????
Does it show up as connected in Windows Mobile Device Center?
No not there. I will either have to read more background info or try downloading another way.
I am open to helpful suggestions.
Thanks

I would think that (at current among 37 readers that) someone has been able to Download BCN using Vista home Preminium and could offer suggestions or steps on how they were able to install the program into Main programs of their PDA/gps on WM6.
How about some helps guys
Thanks

Hello Nathan,
I was finally able to install BCN on my Asus 696. I had to reinstall MS Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 on my computer again.
Can you tell me What the different Colors of the Satellites mean....Probably signal strength?
How accurate is the location I am standing at???
Nice program
Tomorrow I will try downloading some maps that I need.
Thank you
odavid
Yes, the colors indicate signal strength. I believe green is good, yellow is medium, and red is faint, but I forget myself sometimes.
The best indication of whether your position is accurate is next to the "ER" on that page - it has horizontal range followed by vertical. Numbers will appear there after a fix. 10-20ft is pretty good, 180 feet is not. It is a conservative estimate, so it doesn't always go less than 20.
So I assume to download maps it is best to download the desktop version to main computer. if that is the case I will switch to the desktop section forum for further questions and help
Thanks
odavid
Nathan If you want you could use these questions and answers under frequently asked questions or under manual to help future readers. I feel if I can get it working then others should be able to follow my lead with ease.
