Region downloads

By Nathan - Posted on 13 June 2007

There is now a helpful walkthrough of doing region downloads from the map screen. It is part of the Software Tour.

Very nice Nathan. :)

I had no idea how the 'rectangles" function worked. Now I know. Thanks!!

USGS Places Find button does not show up in landscape mode on my RX5915.  I see a sliver of it at the bottom of the screen, but cannot scroll to it.  I have to change the layout of the screen to see it.

There should be a scroll bar on that page under those conditions, that would get you down there. But apparently it is not appearing, so I will need to simulate that and do some adjustments.

The scroll bar does show and works, but the find button will stay at the very bottom of the screen even when scrolling down.  It's as if it's "locked."

In that case, I've found the problem. The button is free floating in the foreground instead of being pasted to the panel.

Hi, although I can use multiple rectangles to define a down load selection. I really would like to use multilines to define an odd shaped selection (white mountains ca). this does not seem to work! I only seem (desktop version) to be able to select a download section via rectangles or rectangle.
Is this correct?
If so what is the purpose of multilines?

best dick

btw I am sold on the desk top version, big screen nice job nathan

You are correct.

Terraserver requires rectangular regions in queries.

Multilines are useful if you use the menu option Create Path. You can then create a hand drawn track to follow or plan your route.

Any of the selection types can be useful if you are estimating distances.

To actually come up with the right tiles or rectangles woudl require somewhat of a polylgon scan conversion algorithm with lots of number crunching. If you had round trip queries s to the server it would take longer than the download would actually take, so you'd have to avoid them.

Actually that sounds fun from a programmer persepctive.
