release gps

I don't remember this being discussed but I might have overlooked it. If I open BCN and turn gps on, and then leave BCN the gps says on and needs to be manually turned off. This makes sense if you are recording a track or something but not just to see where you are.

Maybe there is a reason for it but I like how google maps operates. When it's started it automatically turns on the gps to show the location and when you exit it turns it off.

If it matters I'm running it on the Motorola Droid.

Thanks,
Matt

It does release the GPS if you close the app. with the left arrow button.

If you press the home button, you are not closing the app, you are just switching to a different window, and the app is still running.

Nathan,

I guess you learn something everyday. Everything I've read about Android says that key is a back key, to take you back to previous screens/pages. I've never seen it used to close an app.

It's interesting . . . if I go back as you suggest it does in fact release the gps but if I open a program that shows what is running it still shows BCN as running in the 'background' and taking 17.2 Meg. . .

I guess it doesn't really matter as long as the gps is not running.

Thanks,
Matt

Yes, Android itself decides when to kill a *process*, even when you've closed every *activity*.  More fun Android terminology.
