Slope Angle
Something that would be really useful to me would be the ability to display the slope angle at the current GPS location. Or perhaps be able to select 2 points and display the slope angle between those points. Most avalanches occur in terrain with a slope angle between 35 and 45 degrees. Being able to easily determine slope angle would help me avoid dangerous places on days when the snowpack is unstable.

I think when you say slope angle you mean degree slope. You can determine "percent" slope and then convert from "percent" slope to "degree" slope.
To determine Percent Slope:
1.In BN Scale to the highest detailed topo map, 4 meter per pixel, which is the 1:24000 map. (Contour lines will be 40 feet apart)
2.Select Action-Select-Type-line
3.Use the line function to measure between two contour lines
4.Use the Scientific mode of the Microsoft Calculator.
5.Divide the measured line by 40 to get the percent slope.
(Double check me on the next two steps)
6. Check the Inv box in the calculator
7. Tap the TAN button to get the degree slope
Example:
The measured distance between two contour lines is
120 feet.
In the Microsoft Calculator
Select View-Scientific
Divide 40 by 120 =.33 (33%)
Check the Inv box
Select the TAN button =18.4 degrees
The problem is that the topo maps are nothing but raster background images. There's no way for BCN to know what the elevation is at any one point.
Yes, the raster images are not going to be much help.
The National Elevation DataSet does nto seem to have the granularity for what you need, either.
