tile resolution

By mapep - Posted on 01 December 2007

Nathan,

I was trying out the desktop version 2.5.4 today. I selected 1.0 mile x 1.0 mile and it contained 12 tiles of aerial and 12 tiles of topo! I guesstimate that 2 or 3 tile of each, the same tile came in with enough detail to zoom to 100 feet. The balance were not usable--sort of like comparing google maps in a rural area to a city area. The topo maps, which are all at the same resolution came in with the same disparity as the aerial maps. What am I doing wrong? ???

Nothing that I can tell.

A 1x1 square will contain approximately four(4) tiles at the default max resolutions (1:4m). Unless there is something else going.

One 16m tile covers a 2x2 mile region, and a 64m tile covers an 8x8 mile region. Since we can't download anything less than a full tile, it is expected that these overlapping tiles will stretch out farther.

If you want more high res data, ask for a bigger region, or better yet, mark some rectangles to define the download, as in this tutorial.

Nathan,

Thanks! I should have RTFM!
