Waypoints, how they work?

By rvltch - Posted on 08 August 2010

I've almost got this figured out... when I understand this, I'll pay the $9.99. I have learned to input waypoints, name them, describe them and give them an individual symbol. However, I cannot figure out how to bring up stored waypoints. I also haven't been able to see anything happening when I hit the GOTO button on an existing waypoint.

I've searched the web for several days now and, I have to tell you, there isn't a good general help video that simply and intuitively covers everything. By the way, what is that big red dot for when navigating??

I'm almost there...

You are on the right track so far.

These things should happen when you GOTO a waypoint:

  • Trip Computer shows name of waypoint
  • Trip Computer shows distance to waypoint as Range and compass direction to waypoint as Target.
  • Compass screen lines up bearing on the compass to the GOTO waypoint. Line up the north arrow to get your screen in the right direction.
  • Map screen shows line from your location to Goto Waypoint.

These all need the GPS Active.

What's missing, and this isn't your fault, is the waypoint list screen that we are trying to roll out this week. .

I have the same question as rlvtch:
What's the Big Red Dot when GPS is ON?

The Record button is new.

You should start a trip file first, but it will start recording your track and then the blue square will stop it.

I was sitting in my chair today and touched one of the WP symbols on the map and, lo and behold, up pops the WP with all the info! Did that get activated with today's upgrade or was I just unable to hit the symbol correctly when I was out in the field yesterday?

I was just about to suggest a "waypoint list screen" and I'm thrilled that you're working on it.

Your application still seems a little "beta" but your response here was excellent and appreciatively quick. BCN is now doing everything that I need and I have really appreciated the 2 weeks to evaluate it. I'll buy the full app tonight.

Thanks for all your hard work. I hope it's a great success for you!

Press and hold, or long press, has always been the way to identify a waypoint. It may take some practice to do it because a short tap won't work.

It is mentioned in the help:
