Working w/ Multiple SD or CF cards...

By Team Chinook - Posted on 10 April 2006

Is there a tip when working w/ multiple SD or CF cards on a Pocket PC (Dell Axim X50v)?  I've loaded the software and associated MSFT files on the SD Card.

I'm thinking of having multiple SD cards - one for the bay area, one for Tahoe area, etc.  So would I load the application software and msft files on each of the SD cards, or can I load the APP to the main memory of the Pocket PC and then load the local data files on to the various SD cards?  Any tips?  Thanks!

The easiest thing to is to install the software in main memory (or persistent storage) and put different maps on different cards. The maps themselves will take up the most space once you have a bunch of them.

A note from Microsoft says that the .Net files take up space in main memory whether you install them there or not. Pocket PC 2003 already has .Net 1.0, so installing it just updates some files.

The program itself can be installed to a card, but the Start Menu shortcut may not find the right file when you change cards.

I have found you need room on each card for saved data like tracks and way points. I am in the process of buying several 2 gb cards. I will load about 1 gb of maps on each sepaterate area then when I get to that area I will insert that area card and have room for the new way points and tracks etc.

Buy quality cards and it will be more dependable.
